So What exactly does Paul mean by itching ears?
That my friend, is a very good question.
Because Paul’s studies as a young Jew were in the Sheva of Gamaliel (A Sheva is a Jewish school taught by Rabbis. ) One of the most respected Rabbis of all time, Paul had a very powerful position. Paul had been groomed to be a leader in the Sanhedrin and was a card carrying Pharisee. He even killed several of the original Christian evangelicals such as Stephen. He met Jesus himself in a vision on the road to Damascus. After a short period of time after his conversion from an incorrect viewing of God as a Jew to following Christ himself, he went to Saudi Arabia for an in-depth training, with the risen Jesus himself as his instructor, for his future ministry. Paul knew about the Itching ears of false doctrine because the Pharisees worked off of tradition and the doctrine of men (ie.. the Talmud) verses the Bible.
Our response to a comment on our video on Part 1
Despite including a number of verses to show why we stated what we stated in part I… We still received a comment accusing us of trying to cause Division and Disunity within the church.
They still accused us of gleefully throwing around words of heresy and false teacher.
There is no joy in calling someone whose ministry you’ve trusted and respected for years a false teacher and heretic. It makes you sad and makes you frustrated. Jesus said the words “When I return will I find any faithful?”
Also John in his Revelation wrote to 7 churches and only 1.25 of them was found faithful to Christ and the word.
No, there is no joy in calling out heretics and false teachers. Especially when they are someone you looked up to and learned from.
However, most if not all of todays heretics were and are just like John Piper. For many years if not decades they spoke truth to earn the trust of many. Now that they have earned a trusted and somewhat hero like status in the faith, they are pushing false doctrines and heresies.
It is obvious, based on the persons comments, that they were not actively listening. Or at least listening from a point of exegesis rather than eisegesis.
Our critics two main arguments are actual proof that Piper’s two main points of the article featuring him were both heretical and he showed himself to be a false teacher along with those that he holds kinship with such as John McArthur.
If one uses scripture to show areas where someone is being a false teacher spreading heresies, the person is neither intending to cause, or in actuality is causing division.
They are obeying the words of Paul, Peter, Jude, and Jesus himself to expose darkness and false teachers and what they teach.
Sorry if you do not like your spiritual heros being called out as false teachers but if they are false teachers according to the Bible, if we don’t speak up, we are aiding and abetting in their false teaching which makes us as guilty of their sin as they are.
There is at least one article on our website that give suggestions and tips on how to do advanced Bible Studies. We have also included some great tools to remove excuses.
I would strongly suggest using one or all of them listed so as to be ready to stand and present an answer for the gospel when called upon.
To judge by this persons comments it would seem pretty obvious that they have either never done a deep Bible study or that they were listening with an agenda.
All comments are welcome but a person should do a little better study of Theology and the Bible before making comments. They should especially study the Bible for what God is trying to tell them (exegesis) not from the standpoint of taking things out of context trying to prove a point (eisegesis.)
In Answer to our critic(s):
We did not say that Piper is a Heretic solely for saying that someone could walk away from God.
If you watch the video again, you’ll see that I said Piper is a Heretic for many reasons but the main one in this video is…
When Piper made the following statement:
“If God chooses to be faithful to us we won’t walk away if he doesn’t then we could walk away”
If we need to explain why that’s a heresy we politely recommend buying some good Non-Calvinist Apologetic and Theology books.
